Getting Old

Great. Now my grandfather needs a pacemaker. Actually, he has a pacemaker. They just put it in this morning. He seems to be doing well, thank God. But yesterday, when the doctor and then my aunt and mom tried explaining to him that he needed one and what it was for, he didn't understand. He deteriorates as the day goes on. He forgets. When my mom and aunt went to the hospital yesterday, they asked him where he was, and he said, "Here." So they then asked him where "here" was, and he couldn't answer them. He didn't know. When they told him he was in the hospital, he then knew something was wrong, but he couldn't remember. He doesn't even always remember names, including his children's names sometimes. It's so hard to see him like this. He's so old. This used to be a man who was so with it, so together, and now, now he's not. I know it has to do a lot with age, but knowing that doesn't make it easier to see him like this.

Getting a pacemaker at such an advanced age means he really is Bh a healthy man. Sometimes an older body needs an extra kick. It is hard to see someone you love in such a state.

I heard during a shiur once that we should say during ata chonen in shemona Esrei thank you hashem for letting me thing clearly. I always used to ask to be a super genius on the test days (;

Thanks everyone.
Leo-He gets pretty disoriented if you take him anywhere that's not home or his Kollel class. It's mostly just age, but I'm sure the hospital doesn't help.
Cellar door-You're right about the advanced age and I've already thought of that, but it's still a bit hard. And whoever said that shiur is right-we should be thankful to think clearly. (Btw, I just ask God to make me a genius in general. :P)

Hope he feels better.

It's not alzheimers, thank God. Once he's back in familiar surroundings he should be back to himself. But even then he still gets confused easily. Like I said, it's just age. He is 91 after all. Thanks.
